DUJUAN MCCOY Owner and President/CEO, Circle City Broadcasting

He’s the owner. He’s the day-to-day leader of two stations.

And he’s had an extraordinary influence in less than five years.McCoy has been a spirited and charismatic leader whose profile expanded significantly three years ago, when he purchased WISH-TV and WNDY-23in Indianapolis for $42.5 million. Today, his ownership of the market’s affiliate for the CW Network and MyINDY TV affiliates has grown ownership of other stations across Indiana.

Growth hasn’t come without some bumps — namely a continuing battle against DISH Network that has been a thorniness concern right before a carriage agreement.

It’s been one of the more visible changes to Indianapolis’ broadcast community, and inclusion in broadcast TV today is more relevant than ever. He gave the effort even more energy to his cause — and the result is he’s now seen as an impactful and strong advocate for media and diversity. The most impressive achievement under his leadership, however, has been his commitment to launching new diverse initiatives.

With a passion for DEI initiatives, he has introduced and executed many of the American public policies, and local organizations. McCoy adds, “These initiatives will improve my newsroom diversity and increase access to opportunities for talented individuals across Indiana.”

This perhaps began in 2019 when McCoy purchased the stations from Nexstar, where he continued to grow commitments in workforce and inclusion in the future, he says. “Many JV stations in America, including ours, have had historically low commitments to inclusion. As a result, our audiences have become underrepresented. We’ve now built a brand where inclusion is prioritized.”

He continues to focus on workforce diversity and inclusion programs such as the NAB Broadcast Leadership Training, student scholarship programs, internships, and mentorships. His leadership has paved opportunities for individuals who want to work in broadcasting. As he continues to expand his network of stations, McCoy plans to focus on recruiting new employees who can help move the company forward.

“The talent in front of the screen has improved as compared to two years ago. However, the most impactful change that still lags is the need for more DE&I representation in key leadership positions that hire and manage content within our TV stations and media companies.”
